Jan Zhang was born in Fuzhou, Jiang Xi province in 1966. He graduated with a degree in fine arts from Jiangxi Normal University in 1988. After several years as art teacher, Zhang left teaching to pursue his art career full time, exhibiting his work in Guangzhou, Beijing and other cities in China.
Pursuing further study and a wider audience for his work, Jan immigrated to USA in 1993. Working and studying in East Lansing, Michigan, Zhang showed his work in throughout the US. His work is also featured prominently in St. Ann’s Church on historic Mackinac Island where he painted an original mural onto the ceiling over the church sanctuary.
Jan enjoys painting landscapes with brushes and pallet knife in impressionistic style, his art is expressionistic and beautiful.
Over the years, Jan has developed his own unique style in studio art. He often says “Light is the soul of visual artwork. If you master of the nuances of light, you will create a successful piece of art. Creating the nuances of light can be a struggle, but the struggle itself can be rewarding.” Jan’s artwork has been exhibited in various art galleries in USA, and Canada.
