Biography

Born and raised in Southern California, award winning artist Katherine Meade, has always been creative. But, her first opportunity to take an oil painting class wasn’t until high school where her high school art department was impressed by her intuitive abilities and put her to work painting for the theatre, and entered her first painting in a local art show where it won first place. But,  Katherine’s fascination with science, nature and the physical world around us lead her to earn a degree in Botany from the University of California. Being very artistic, Katherine used her creative skills as a means to help pay for her education and was often called upon to illustrate scientific papers and manuals and creatively solve problems in the laboratory. Katherine worked as an Analytical Chemist with the U.S. Forest Service after graduating. In that position, she studied forest health alongside dedicated scientists from around the globe, while continuing to hone her artistic talents.

After moving from Southern California to the Midwest in the early 1990’s, she began to work full time as an artist. Her first show earned enough to launch her art career and when her first entry in the Indiana State Fair won Wildlife Best of Show, and Governor's Choice Award she knew she was on the right path. She discovered that her scientific training in observation, objectivity, problem solving, the study of light and morphology lent itself well to her studies as a painter. She connects with the artistic and scientific curiosity of Leonardo Da Vinci and the painters of the Hudson River School . She hopes to instill the same appreciation of nature, light and observation in the viewers of her art.
Katherine has recently established studios in both Atlanta and Santa Rosa Beach Florida.
