Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, artist Michael Reibel has always been drawn to the outdoors and the natural beauty of the landscape. The sensory elements of nature are a moving and inspirational experience each and every time he ventures out in search of material for future paintings. The stillness and quietness of the landscape often provide the inspiration for many of his works.
Michael loves the patina and history of the south. Accordingly, the majority of his work is of the southern landscape, however he also enjoys still life and figurative work. He is focused and passionate, striving to continually evolve and mature as an artist. He is forever working to enhance the poetic expression of his ideas with each painting.
In 2004, a chance visit to his home by a local artist proved to be a pivotal moment in his life and his artistic ambitions. The artist was impressed with one of his paintings, and encouraged him to not let his artistic abilities go to waste. She referred him to a local art studio in Louisville where he signed up for classes and the journey began again. While he began his professional artistic journey later in life than many contemporary painters, he is living proof that it is never too late to pursue a talent, a dream, or a passion. In 2010, he made the decision to leave his corporate day job and solely focus on his fine art career, a decision many viewed as "gutsy", however one that was driven by his passion and desire to continue growing as an artist.
His work has been juried into numerous national art exhibitions including the American Impressionist Society national and small works exhibitions, the Cincinnati Art Club national exhibition and the National Oil and Acrylic Painter’s Society Best of America exhibitions.
Michael is a Signature Member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, an Associate Member of the American Impressionist Society, and an Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America. He is also an instructor for the The Studio School of Savannah in Savannah, Georgia.
Michael now resides in Seabrook, SC with his wife and family where he maintains his working studio.
